PRESTATYN slipped further down the Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One standings after a four-wicket loss at Wavertree.

The Beach Close side were unable to recover from a poor batting display despite Kieron New claiming a five-wicket haul thanks to another dazzling display with the ball, and they now sit in seventh spot ahead of their trip to Burscough on Saturday.

Stewart Guy disposed of openers Kieron Tidswell and Peter Cassidy early on for two and 17, before Matt Nation took over proceedings to decimate the visitors’ top order to give them a further mountain to climb.

The talented bowler despatched Sheil Sethi (25), skipper Daniel Williams (0) and Robbie Rimmington (5), and Nation also took the scalp of David Harris (21) and Adam Tidswell (3) on his way to figures of 5-57 from a 23-over spell.

Danny Thomas (23) and Gareth Leonard (23) provided some resistance late on, but both were undone by Romario Griffith as the away side set a target of 145 all out from 52 overs in the middle.

The outstanding New wasted no time in making his presence felt with the new ball with the quick-fire wickets of captain Josh Birch (0) and Darren Collin (9), and he also removed Tom Oughterson (27), John Daulby (8) and Griffith (28) to end the day on 5-69.

This effort proved to be for nothing, as middle order batsman Ken Highdale contributed a fantastic 51 before he eventually played a Tidswell delivery into the hands of Thomas, which eventually proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The home side reached their required run total with minimal fuss, with an unbeaten 14 from Theo O’Bryan getting them over the line for the loss of six wickets and after 34 overs of play.
