NORTH Wales Police invited children to an event in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour through sport.

Local PCSO Stephanie Jones worked with Aura Leisure to arrange two events to be held at Gladstone Playing Fields, Hawarden.

Over 100 children turned up to enjoy the day, which included sports activities such as Zorb football and dodgeball, live music and free ice cream.

The PCSO said the event held last week went really well and she hopes the event for this Thursday will prove to be more successful.

She added: "We have been experiencing issues with anti-social behaviour in the area and I was able to get some funding to organise an event.

"It was brilliant. Over 100 children turned up and we had a lot of positive comments from parents and we are hoping the event this week will be as successful."

PCSO Jones wanted to organise the youth project over the summer to address the issue of anti-social behaviour and encourage young people to utilise their time more productively.

Funding for the event was received by the High Sherriff's Crimebeat fund and local businesses.

She said: "The main aim was for us to build relationships with the local young people and police and also local businesses and the community.

"It was a good opportunity to tell the kids local businesses funded the event, businesses that were previous targets for anti-social behaviour.

"There was no issues and it was nice to speak to the kids and it was good to see that they were thinking about where the money had come from and the effects of anti-social behaviour.

"It was really positive and it was really good it take part.

"I just want to say thank you to all businesses involved, from Wales and West, Legat Owen, Redrow, Quintlex and Dan Williams from Aura Leisure."

The next sports event will be held at the Gladstone Playing Field on August 23 between 3pm and 5pm.
