An 83-year-old man has been fined £300 and ordered to pay £500 compensation after he admitted sexually touching a hospital worker after his wife had been saved.

The grateful pensioner suddenly hugged and kissed the shocked Glan Clwyd staff member on the lips - and stroked her breast over clothing, magistrates at Llandudno heard.

She felt “shocked and devastated,” prosecutor Gareth Parry said.

Emlyn Williams, of Capel Garmon, Llanrwst, a builder never in trouble before, was told by court chairman Duncan Stewart: "We are ever mindful health professionals must be protected from inappropriate behaviour such as this for which there’s no excuse.”

Williams must pay £115 costs.

Defence solicitor Graham Parry said it was a sad case and Williams was sorry and got carried away.

Williams’s wife had pneumonia at the time and her condition had been “touch and go.”

Mr Parry said: "What in his mind he was trying to do was he wanted to thank the lady.”

The pensioner didn’t dispute what happened but had little memory of it.
