Residents of Mold are being invited to have their say on where they would like to see more trees planted.

Last month the Leader reported how Mold Town Councillor Andrea Mearns called on her colleagues to help her produce a map of potential new tree locations across the town.

It came as part of the new 'Wild About Mold' scheme being delivered by North Wales Wildlife Trust and funded by the National Lottery as well as the HDH Wills Charitable Trust aiming - among other things - to boost the town's tree coverage.

Mold Town Council has now called on members of the public to come forward with their ideas of where the new trees and wild flowers could be planted in the town.

Detailed maps being used to identify these potential sites are available at Mold Town Council in Earl Road.

According to figures urban canopy cover across Flintshire is only 14.5 per cent, the seventh lowest in Wales, with Mold's canopy cover at 15.3 per cent - which is below the average for Wales at 16.3 per cent.

As part of the Wild About Mold initiative there will be a series of events and activities occurring until October 2019 offering people the chance to learn about their local wildlife and how to help it, including tree planting.

Speaking about the scheme at a previous council meeting cllr Mearns told colleagues: "We have the opportunity now with the North Wales Wildlife Trust and Wild About Mold scheme to get some more trees.

“Volunteers will be putting them in and we are getting the money from the scheme - they have £73,000 which is paying salary, some equipment, trees and wildlife and some training."

To find out more or have your say on where the trees should be planted contact Mold Town Council on 01352 758 532 or email supportofficer@moldtowncouncil.org.uk

Anyone wishing to submit ideas are being asked to do so by September.
