RESIDENTS were evacuated and some were temporarily re-housed after a sprinkler system damaged several flats.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 2.16am this morning reporting a sprinkler system activation at Castle Heights in Flint.

Three fire crews and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene but the callout was confirmed to be a false alarm once the first appliance arrived - as there was no fire.

After investigating, firefighters discovered the sprinklers had been activated whilst they were being repaired, after having been set off earlier that night by an occupant who had been decorating.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed damage was caused to several flats by the sprinklers.

The affected flats were evacuated, with some residents being temporarily re-housed as a result.

A further call was received at 7.22am this morning, following which one crew re-attended the scene to discover the latest system activation had been caused by a fault following the earlier incidents.
