A chef who called at his ex-partner’s house in the early hours of the morning beat her new boyfriend about the head with a piece of wood.

Andrew Youds, who suffered cuts to the head and face in the attack, was awarded £400 in compensation by District Judge Gwyn Jones, sitting at Llandudno magistrates’ court.

Prosecutor James Neary said that Jennifer Davies and Michael Andrea had been in a relationship but they split up in January this year.

At about 5am on May 14 she heard shouting outside her home and saw Andrea, who shouted: “Where is your boyfriend. Get him outside now.”

When Mr Youds appeared Ms Davies and her daughter pushed Andrea away but he returned and hit Mr Youds several times about the head .

Andrea, a 38-year-old chef, of Conway Road, Llandudno, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was given a 26-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months. He must also carry out 175 hours of unpaid work.

Defence solicitor Huw Roberts said Andrea had not gone there deliberately with a bat but had picked up a piece of wood on the way, but the District Judge said it was nevertheless a weapon.

He imposed a restraining order prohibiting the defendant from contacting Mr Youds or Ms Davies for five years.
