A 36-year-old man with a “horrendous record” has been spared jail after another shoplifting offence.
But Paul Mark Davies was warned at a weekend court it was his last chance.
He pleaded guilty to stealing a £50 DVD player from Asda at Bangor on Friday.
His solicitor Deborah Davies said that according to the defendant he had no money because of a delay in payment of benefits, and needed cash to visit his newborn baby girl .
Sarah Marsh, prosecuting, said Davies, of Ainon Road, Bangor had told police he sold the player for £20.
He was given a four weeks prison sentence suspended for a year and must pay £50 compensation and costs of £200.
Chairman David Davies told him at the Llandudno hearing: "Your record of offending is horrendous.”
He added: "You will go straight to prison if you commit shoplifting or any other offence.”
