POLICE have launched an appeal for information following damage done to a memorial commemorating those who died during both World Wars.

Mold's 'Silent Soldier' silhouette, situated in the Daniel Owen square, was vandalised in the last two days, with the head of the soldier being deliberately bent and scratched.

The 'Silent Soldier' initiative is a campaign by the Royal British Legion to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War and involves people receiving a silhouetted solider for their donations to Royal British Legion.

North Wales Police South Flintshire team tweeted today: ''Mindless vandalism - Daniel Owen Centre, Mold. Unknown vandals have caused damage to property over the last 2 days.

''Despicably they have bent and scratched the head of the fallen soldier memorial commemorating our fallen in both World Wars.''

Dave Hill, Mold town centre manager, said: ''This is a very sad indictment of whoever damaged this tribute to the many young men from Mold who fell in the First World War and all the other conflicts that have followed.

''I sincerely hope they reflect on and show due remorse for their actions.''
