A TRIAL date has been set in the case of a man accused of killing his dad in Ellesmere Port.

Daniel Renshaw, 27, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday, July 20 via videolink from Altcourse Prison in Liverpool.

He entered no plea in relation to a charge of murdering his father Graham at a house on Seymour Drive in the early hours of Thursday, June 14.

The 52-year-old had suffered serious injuries and later died at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Defence barrister Brian Treadwell asked for a further adjournment of the case until September 7 while a psychiatric report is prepared on his client. A plea will likely be entered on this date.

A provisional trial date of December 3 has been set with counsel expecting it to last around five days.

It is listed to be held at Liverpool Crown Court although Judge Roger Dutton expressed a wish that, as a local case, it should be held in Chester.

Renshaw, of Drake Road, Neston, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality. The judge ordered that he remain in custody.

At the time of the incident, a police spokesman said: “Police and paramedics attended the scene and on arrival the victim - Graham Renshaw, aged 52 - was found with serious injuries.

“He was taken to the Countess of Chester hospital but sadly died a short time later.”

The family, who are being supported by specially trained officers, decided not to make a tribute through the media but released a photograph of Mr Renshaw.
