NORTH Wales Police have reiterated their urge for residents to be vigilant and to take sensible precautions following a spate of burglaries.

Between Monday and today houses, sheds and garages across Wrexham have been targeted.

In a number of incidents thieves have gained entry through unlocked doors and downstairs windows left open in the warm weather.

In the latest spate thieves targeted addresses in Norfolk Road, Ffordd Meirionydd, Y Wern and Haytor Road in Wrexham as well as Marford, Rossett, Caergwrle and Chirk.

Sgt Claire McGrady said: “I can’t stress strongly enough the need for home owners to take responsibility for securing their property and to be mindful that opportunist thieves will take advantage of open windows, unlocked doors, car keys left within easy reach and items left outside overnight.

“This is a continued appeal for the public to ensure that doors and windows, particularly on the ground floor, are kept closed and that residents ensure that access points are properly locked even if you are in the garden.

“Never keep large amounts of cash at home. Keep laptops and cash out of sight and put car keys away and not near the front door or a place where they can be easily found.

“If you are away on holiday and you want to share your experiences on social networks, please be mindful as you are telling people your home is empty. If you have a burglar alarm, please use it.”

She added: “We have dedicated extra officers to tackle these burglaries, but we are relying on the public to secure their own property, to report any suspicious behaviour and to come forward with any information which will help us bring the thieves before the courts.
