FOUR youngsters organised their own gig and raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

Children from Castell Alun High School, Hope, decided to create a band called LIES after they met in school and discovered they were all interested in music.

Louis Crank, Isaac Holmes, Evan Spray and Sam Wainwright, named the band after themselves and decided to put on a performance at the Penyffordd and Penymynydd Institute to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Kirsty Crank, Louis’ mum, said: “About six or eight weeks ago they decided they wanted to do a gig and raise money for charity, they sold tickets and did a raffle, it was all their idea.

“It was a huge success, it was really busy, and people are looking forward to another event. One young girl has even asked if they will perform at her birthday party.”

The four 12-year-old boys raised over £550 for Cancer Research from their gig on Saturday evening and Kirsty said she is immensely proud.

She added: “I think Cancer Research is an out-there charity and they have all heard about it. Louis’ nan's best friend has recently died of cancer too and so it’s a charity they all know about and it has affected so many people.

“My role is the funds, bottle washer and drum carrier but the four mums and dads we help, and we get involved. We had never met before so we have all made friendships too.”
