NORTHOP HALL UNDER-15s will have the chance to retain the Welsh Cup trophy after beating Mochdre in bizarre fashion.

The North Wales final was a washout after heavy rain on Monday evening, which also prevented a bowl off to decide the winner.

A quick look at the rules suggested the game would have to be decided by the toss of a coin with Hall's Jack Billington correctly calling heads to secure victory.

It means Hall have the chance to retain the trophy they won last year at Sophia Gardens on Friday, July 27.

Coach Jamie Griffiths was delighted to see his side given a shot at winning back-to-back titles after becoming the first North Wales team to triumph in 17 years just 12 months ago.

"I'm over the moon," declared Griffiths, who has seen Hall beat the likes of Buckley and Connah's Quay on the way to the final. "It is a great achievement for the club and for the lads.

"To get to the finals the first time was mind blowing, but to do it for a second successive season is even bigger and better.

"Everyone at the club deserves a massive congratulations and it's up to us now to go and enjoy the day.

"We would be over the moon to win it, but we are over the moon to get there again."

Hall will play two games at the home of Glamorgan as they look to keep the trophy in North Wales for another year.

Northop Hall's Smithy Lane home, meanwhile, will be staging a Griffiths' Cricket Week for children aged between 9-16 between August 20-24.

Each day will run between 9am-4.30pm with registration forms available from Joanne Evans, who can be contacted on jevans@uk.tiauto.com
