THE torrential downpour that hit Wrexham has led to a school closure today.
St Mary's Church in Wales School in Ruabon had to close its doors due to the drains in the school grounds overflowing, which caused a potential health and safety risk.
It follows the heavy downpour on Monday evening which caused several roads to resemble rivers.
A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: “The school was closed for health and safety reasons due to drainage issues following the heavy rain yesterday evening.
"Parents will be sent an email from the school regarding when it is likely to re-open.
"The information should also be on the council’s website www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/education/school_status.cfm”
Richard Long, 44 of Gouldbourne Avenue was one of many who found the driving conditions to be dangerous when the rains descended, shortly after 6pm.
He said: "We’d just returned home and noticed the raised manhole cover at the end of the street.
"Conditions in such weather are obviously dangerous and the raised manhole creates additional hazards for motorists."
