HAWARDEN hosted its annual summer fair at Gladstone playing fields which was well supported and blessed with sunshine.

Residents enjoyed the delights of the fair, which included a number of the traditional rides and stalls.

There was the traditional junior football tournament which is a permanent fixture on the carnival agenda, where over 40 teams entered.

Winners on the day for the various age groups included Flint JFC under 7s, Liverpool's L4 JFC under 8s and Hawarden Rangers under 9s and 10s.

This year saw a pop-up stage on show, a first for the carnival, which played host to a number of live music performances, including from local artist Bill Bibby, a fun dog show and scarecrow competition.

There was also a performance from Deeside gymnastics.

The winner of the scarecrow competition was Neil O’May with Shrek. Neil received a family voucher for the Ice Cream Farm.

In second place was Elvis, by Linda Owens who received a cream tea for two, donated by Hawarden Estate Farm Shop.

Joint third was the Beach Party, by Kim Caldow and Nia Hughes, and Fisherman, by Ellie Davies. Both won a bottle of wine and a hanging basket which had been donated by Strikes Nurseries in Hawarden.

Hawarden Community Council awarded the Royal British Legion a special commendation award for their entry and donated £50.

All entrants received a certificate and the other entries won a tub of ice cream donated by Ice Cream Farm.

Hawarden Council organised the event but other community groups involved in the running of event included Hawarden Scouts, The Air Training Corps, Hawarden Rangers, St John Ambulance and local police.
