THE success of Flint Festival has shown 'the wonderful town in all its glory' according to organisers.

More than £4,000 was raised for good causes throughout the week-long programme of events across Flint earlier this month, culminating in the festival day at Flint Castle last Saturday.

The festival, which has been staged by Flint Town Council annually for more than a decade, began with a dog show at the town’s RNLI headquarters before youngsters from schools across Flint took to the stage to see who would come out on top in Flint’s Got Talent.

The sun shone on Flint Castle on Saturday as organisations and businesses came together to put on a busy festival day with medieval re-enactments, live dance and martial arts performances and dozens of stalls.

More than 1,500 people descended on the town’s historic monument to bring the festival to a close in style at the Rock the Castle music event on Saturday night.

Cllr Michelle Perfect, festival organiser, said plans are now in place to make next year’s event bigger and better.

She said: “The festival showed the world the wonderful town of Flint in all its glory - thousands came out and supported each event and took to social media to sing their praises.

“A huge thank you must go to Flint Town Council for hosting and sponsoring the event, to CADW for their sponsorship and to Essity Oakenholt Papermill for their sponsorship of our dance competition.

“I want to see the event go from strength to strength and would encourage groups and charities to get involved in next year's event either by hosting their own event under the banner of the festival or coming along to one of our events.”

The week’s festivities came to a close on Sunday with the annual civic parade to honour this year’s Flint town mayor.

All money raised from the festival will be donated to groups across Flint by mayor cllr David Cox later this year.
