The Leader:

IF you support Wrexham there’s a good chance one of the members of the Woodfine family have taken your money on the turnstiles.

Nigel, his father and son, are not only big Wrexham fans but they are all turnstile operators at The Racecourse on matchdays, meaning three generations of the family admit thousands of football supporters into the ground over the course of a season.

“I work on the turnstiles at Wrexham and this will be my 43rd season coming up,” said Woodfine.

“My father, who is 89 this year, has been on the turnstiles for about 65 years and now my son George, who is 17, has just had his first season so we have got three generations of true Wrexham fans all on the turnstiles.

“My father is normally with the away supporters, I am on the Yale Stand and my son is on the Mold Road Stand.

“We all love the club so it is great.”

Woodfine headed over to Portugal for Wrexham’s pre-season tour and he loves the close bond that has developed between fans and players in the Algarve.

“I have come out with my friends and we were here last year as well,” said Woodfine.

“It has been a great time, especially the open training session when you meet all the players and you see a few tactical approaches that they do, it is really interesting.

“It is good to have a good chat with them afterwards, they appreciate all the fans coming down. In fact, last year they were so surprised so many were here for a training session!

“There were a lot there again and it is great, players and fans getting together. We are all one club and we are all in it for success.”
