A motorist had a lucky escape after their car was engulfed in a fireball on the M6 in Cheshire on Friday morning.
The vehicle caught fire on the M6 northbound carriageway near to junction 18.
Images posted by the North West Motorway Police on Twitter show the dramatic moment that the car was engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke pouring into the air.
Police confirmed that the driver escaped his vehicle and was unharmed.
Fire crews tackled the blaze, with aftermath images showing the vehicle completely destroyed.
The fire led to long tailbacks on the M6, as traffic was allowed past in the outside lane.
A Tweet from North West Motorway Police said: "Thankfully driver got out of the vehicle safe and sound."
