A village school has been taken over by garden insects – and parents and teachers are thrilled.

Gwernaffield’s Ysgol Y Waun Year 1 and 2 summer production is 'The Selfish Ladybird' and parents and grandparents packed out the school hall to watch the budding stage stars being put through their paces playing a range of creepy crawlies.

Louise Ankers, headteacher, said the children worked exceptionally hard learning their lines and she is thrilled with how they performed.

She said: “The Selfish Ladybird is a moral tale of Lucinda the ladybird who lives in a beautiful garden with many other creatures but she refuses to share a secret and that leads to her losing all her friends.

“The other garden creatures, the spiders, grasshoppers, beetles and butterflies, dance before her and she seeks their advice on making friends. But it’s Woody, the oak tree, who helps her understand that sharing is the key to making and keeping friends.”

She added: “I’m so pleased with the way the children performed. They showed such confidence and really enjoyed playing their roles. All the staff who worked so hard with the children to put the show together really deserve a huge pat on the back.

“And we have to thank parents for the imaginative and fabulous costumes they helped design and make for the children to wear. I’m sure our children will always remember their production and how much they enjoyed taking part.”
