MARTIN BURGER is refusing to dwell on the past with Connah's Quay facing a Premier Division dogfight with visiting Chirk tomorrow.

Quay snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as Stuart Griffiths took three wickets in an over to bowl the Flintshire side out for 160 after Denbigh had posted 165.

Captain Burger has his grievances with last week's hugely frustrating defeat but simply said: "That's cricket."

Instead, the Quay skipper is focused on righting the wrongs of six days ago by beating rock-bottom Chirk, which could see them climb out of the relegation zone at the expense of Gresford, who make their way to unbeaten leaders Menai Bridge.

Burger said: "I am looking forward to this weekend and playing against Chirk.

"We want to put last weekend behind us and there is no better way of doing that than winning the next game."

Quay's bowlers impressed last week with Josh Clarke, Mitch Van Wyk, Darren Leach and Burger combining to restrict Denbigh to what looked like a heavily below-par 165.

Burger, who will be without Van Wyk and Tom Hooson tomorrow, added: "The positive of last weekend was the we bowled really well.

"We've kept Hawarden Park and Denbigh to low totals in recent weeks, so it's up to the batsmen to back the bowlers up now."

Chirk captain Andrew Swarbrick insists ending his side's barren run is all that matters as they make the trip to Central Park.

Swarbrick's men remain without a win from 10 attempts after losing by nine wickets to fellow strugglers Hawarden Park last Saturday.

"We need to get that first win," declared Swarbrick. "I don't care how it happens, we need a win, and we won't stop until it happens.

"I don't know what it is at the moment, but after we finished last Saturday's game we wanted to get straight back out there to try and put things right."

Chirk are boosted by the return of Steve Kelshaw, although Gareth Partridge and Adam Shillcock remain sidelined.

While Chirk are striving for their first victory of the season, Northop are looking to return to winning ways at Bangor tomorrow.

A seven-wicket defeat at the hands of table topping Menai Bridge ended a run of four wins in five outings for Northop.

Team manager Dale Harley said: "We lost to the top side in the league and they are top for a reason, so we haven't lost any heart from the defeat."

On the meeting with Bangor, Harley added: "They've got obvious quality so we need to keep their good players quiet."

Northop are boosted by the expected return of Williams duo Darren and Gareth and Andy Oates should keep his place after impressing with the ball against Menai, but Tom Blackwell misses out.

HAWARDEN PARK are looking to “kick on” in Pwllheli after ending their near two-month losing streak at Chirk last weekend.

The Flintshire side have struggled since beating Llandudno on May 12, but returned to winning ways with a nine-wicket success at rock-bottom Chirk.

Captain Ian Martin is looking for his side to take that renewed confidence into tomorrow’s trip to Parc Bodegroes.

“It was a really good performance in the field on Saturday against Chirk and then the batsman batted with positive intent, which we haven’t done enough of all season,” he said. “We will be looking to kick on from here and take that form into the Pwllheli game.”

Key all-rounder Campbell Marr is amongst the players missing for Hawarden, but Martin is remaining positive.

“We are missing a couple of key players as usual, we knew at the start of the season player availability was going to be a problem and nothing has changed,” he continued. “We will play the best we can. We have had players missing every week but the bottom line is we haven’t performed as well as we know we can.

“Chirk on Saturday proved what we are capable of and we’ll go from there. I’m confident that we can put in another good display and that will put us very much in the game and give us a great chance of a win.”

Craig Wilson and Stuart Green are included in the Hawarden XI.

Brymbo have plenty of reasons why they want victory over visiting Llandudno tomorrow.

The Wrexham-based outfit are looking to strengthen their grip on second place with a fifth successive league victory.

And after Llandudno recorded a five-wicket win over Brymbo in April, captain James Claybrook is keen to avoid an unwanted double defeat.

Claybrook said: “Llandudno beat us earlier in the season so we will be looking for revenge, we never like it when a team can do the double of us so along with getting our fifth win in a row that will be the primary aim for us.”

Brymbo’s fourth successive win came at Pwllheli last week as Claybrook’s men won by 69 runs.

The skipper said: “It was another good win, the lads are playing some really good cricket.

“If I was being ultra critical we could have been a bit more clinical and got the 15-0, but we are playing the type of cricket I was expecting at the start of the season, which is great to see.”
