Plans have been submitted for a new Home Bargains store on the former Kwik Save site on Chester Road, Mold.

Originally, Sainsbury’s had bought the site in 2012 with plans to build a large store and petrol station, which would have created 300 jobs.

But plans have now been submitted to Flintshire Council by TJ Morris (Home Bargains) to bring a store to the area, along with a proposed 208 parking spaces.

The design and access statement says: “The building has been empty for several years and has suffered heavily from vandalism and theft.

“As a result of the damage the building has been subject to ingress of weather and is quickly falling into a dilapidated state.”

The statement adds that the objective is to “re-vitalise and uplift” the site and to provide local residents with choice and quality of provision, and create new jobs.

It says the development will result in two new retailers and a significant investment in Mold, creation of new jobs as well as further jobs in construction, maintenance and security and the promotion of green travel.

It will also result in the enhancement of retail choice and the re-use of a previously developed site.
