ROB LAINTON has become Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts' fourth new signing of the summer.

The 28-year-old stopper has joined the Reds on a season long loan from Port Vale and will compete with Christian Dibble for the number one jersey..

Although he started as first choice at Vale Park last season after arriving on a free transfer from Bury, Lainton suffered from injuries and dropped down the pecking order under Neil Aspin.

Lainton, who has 12 months left on his contract at Vale Park but has been placed on the transfer list, began his career at Bolton Wanderers but never made a first team appearance and he had loan spells at Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town while with Bury.

“I’m delighted to come to Wrexham on-loan for this season," Lainton told the official club website.

“It’s a fantastic club, a big club and I want to play a part in successful season for us. There is no doubt when you come here and see the facilities and stature of the club we should be in the Football League and that’s clearly everyone’s aim here.

“It’s a season-long loan which gives me an opportunity for a new challenge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads and getting started.

“Hopefully I’ll get some game time against Airbus and Louletano, I’m ready to go. The club have a good pre-season schedule and I’m looking forward to taking part."
