PUPILS from a Saughall primary school have been crowned champions in a national dance competition.

The team from Saughall All Saints Primary School were crowned National Dance Champions in The Great Big Dance Off Competition - the only UK dance competition solely for schools - after performing a dance inspired by their study of the Second World War in the classroom.

Gemma Cook, deputy headteacher, said: "We are obviously absolutely thrilled with the outcome but more importantly we are incredibly proud of the journey our young people have been on to become National Dance Champions 2018.

"#SAS Dance Squad 2018 initially took inspiration for their dance piece from their classroom learning on World War II. This then developed further into a highly emotive piece focussing on the devastation of war and the trauma it can leave on those affected by it.

"The children thoroughly enjoyed performing such an emotional and mature piece of dance and to be crowned National Champions was certainly a phenomenal achievement and one which the whole community is extremely proud of."
