A MOLD woman who punched her former partner after a dispute over a text message has been ordered to do 50 hours of unpaid work.

Kelly Williams attacked Jemma Louise Egerton after she became angry when her ex sent a message to Williams’ new girlfriend in Ireland.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson said: “She punched her on the left jaw with a clenched fist and her victim was left crying.”

Williams told police Ms Egerton had gone through her phone messages without asking.

The court heard the relationship between the two women had been an “on, off” one for its 11-month duration and Williams would play “head games” with her partner, the prosecutor alleged.

She said the argument erupted after they had both spent time at a friend’s house and were returning to Williams’ house.

Williams, 33, of Llys Bryn Eglwys, Milford Street, Mold admitted assault by beating on June 19 when she appeared before Flintshire Magistrates’ Court.

Fiona Larkin, defending, said Williams agreed with the prosecution version of events and had swung her hand, but only hit her victim once.

District Judge Roger Lowe sentenced Williams to a one-year community order under which, as well as the work requirement, she has to undergo treatment for alcohol dependency.

She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £85.
