THE WREXHAM Branch of the Royal Naval Association attracted the attention of Theresa May on Armed Forces Day.

The Wrexham Branch represented the Royal Naval Association in Llandudno on Saturday, marching with other Armed Forces veterans in the events' parade and manning a gazebo to give out gifts and promote recruitment.

Keith Pritchard, the Wrexham Branch chairman, said: "We're trying to recruit members in Wrexham because four years ago we only had four active members but we have up to 30 members now just by getting out and promoting."

The Wrexham Branch brought along seven-year-old Evie Howell who dressed in her Welsh traditional costume with a Wrexham Royal Naval Association scarf.

She marched alongside her Grandad, Wrexham Royal Naval Association Veteran, Eric Holmwood.

Mr Pritchard said: "Evie had wanted to march with us for a while so we said she could in Llandudno.

"She managed to walk the whole parade and the crowd thought it was wonderful.

"Theresa May also made a big fuss of her."

The Prime Minster attended the event with Princess Anne and Mr Pritchard said the Wrexham Branch attracted her attention.

He said: "Theresa May made a beeline for us and talked to the veterans.

"It was great to promote Wrexham because the Royal Naval Association is not like it was, it's completely different.

"We're trying to recruit more women.

"We also get into the community and link with lots of charities."

The Wrexham Branch of the Royal Naval Association meet at 7.30pm on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Wrexham and District War Memorial Club.
