THOUSANDS of people turned up to enjoy the annual Connah’s Quay festival.

The town came together over the weekend and saw thousands of people come and support their local community.

The event is in its 14th year and this year featured a variety of stands with charities and organisations offering information.

Lisa Fearn, Connah’s Quay town manager, said: “We are delighted, the aim was a community fun day and I would like to thank everyone that helped make it happen.

“We have months of planning and bringing it all together and the voluntary groups are very supportive.

“It’s more about getting the community together and that is exactly what happened.

“It was brilliant, amazing and absolutely fantastic, definitely one of the best yet. The weather was glorious, and it was fun, filled with families and children.”

Families could enjoy a mini beach, arts workshops, face painting, a bar, a dog show and more, and money raised will go into a pot for next years festival.

A football tournament was also held for the under 10's teams across Flintshire in memory of Carl Sargeant.

Flint won the competition, winning the Carl Sargeant trophy, with the FC Nomads of Connah's Quay as the runners up.

Cllr Bernie Attridge said: "This is more of a legacy, moving forward every Connah's Quay Festival now it is going to be a year on year competition, as Carl Sargeant before he died was president of the FC Nomads and now his son has taken over."
