RESIDENTS of Lixwm had extra reason to enjoy the carnival, following the confirmation of their school's future.

The carnival had originally been planned to raise money in support of Lixwm Primary School, which had faced threats of closure.

But following the recent news of the schools survival, the people of Lixwm enjoyed the carnival with an air of relief.

As the school will no longer be closing, the money raised during the carnival will be reinvested back into the village.

Mark Cockburn, member of Lixwm's governing body, said: "There was a very happy atmosphere. Hearing the news a few weeks ago that the school won't be closed or federated meant there was a celebration if you like, that the school is staying open.

"The day itself was really good. Lots of people were there, not just parents but kids and people from the community. And the weather was good too."
