A busy village road in North Wales has fallen victim to soaring temperatures today.

A stretch of the B5382 has been forced to close in the village of Llansannan, near Llanfair Talhaiarn, after the road surface began to melt in the 24C heat.

It is understood that the stretch of road, which leads from Llangernyw to Denbigh, will be closed in Llansannan for the next two days by Conwy County Borough Council's highways department.

The Leader:

Darryl Flynn, owner of the nearby Old Stag Inn, said: "Literally in front of my eyes the road surface was coming up as the cars drove over.

"The car tyres were lifting it up and it was getting stuck in the tyre treads.

"Some of our regular customers have even had their shoes ruined by the melting road surface."

The Leader:

An eyewitness said the surface temperature had been measured at 58C.

Mr Flynn added: "This is the second time its happened in four weeks.

"The council have had to come back and close the road for two days, which is obviously going affect our business."

Conwy County Borough Council has been approached for comment.
