SCHOOLS across Flintshire took part in a sports day to compete for the annual cross-country championship title.

The annual event was organised by Mountain Lane school in Buckley and saw 16 primary schools and roughly 400 pupils from across the county compete in cross-country on Buckley Common.

Hundreds of parents attended the event to cheer their children on.

The pupils took part in both individual and team races. The team races saw Mountain Lane C.P. winning the lower junior girls race, Ysgol Owen Jones were victorious in the lower junior boys, both for years 3 and 4.

Mountain Lane were again successful in the upper junior girls, while Ysgol y Foel won the upper junior boys, both for years 5 and 6.

Emma O’Neill, headteacher at Ysgol Y Foel in Mold, said: “It was a very successful event and it was an excellent day.

“We compete every year and the children love it. It was a beautiful day, very well organised and ran smoothly.”
