THE team at Rebel Rebel are known to be some of the best barbers in Glasgow.

With the reopening of the Finnieston shop, the brand new MADE Barbering Academy is about to see its first group of students graduate. The Rebel brand is going from strength to strength keeping the team busy.

We managed to catch their top five barbers for a quick 60-second chat to find out some more about them:

Name: Simon Harvey

Age: 39

Where are you from? East Sussex

How long have you been a barber? 4 and half years

What made you want to get into the industry?

I really enjoyed the creative side of the industry and experimenting to find out what types of styles I could produce with hair.

Working with such passionate and like-minded people.

Do you have a signature style?

Yes. I’m all about the Classic’s, Pomp’s and Side Parts.

Have you won any awards?

I won best Male Barber 2016 at the SHABA Awards.

Some of the team perform in barber shows – do you?

No, I don’t. I take pride in my work within the shop. I do, however, plan on working on a live stream in the near future…watch this space!

What’s the top tip you give to clients?

Never think that it’s just one product that does the job. There is a process to get your hair in great condition, treat it and then maintain it. The right products are key to achieving great hair.

What’s your client base like?

Mostly 25-40’s who love the classic look

What do you think is the future for Modern Barbering?

Maintaining the traditional ways of barbering and making sure all future barbers have that education that they need to fulfil what they are looking for to be the best barber they can be.

Where are you from?

Blackpool

How long have you been a barber?

Going on 10 years now.

What made you want to get into the industry?

I fell into it really! I was always creative with my own hair, and then once I got the job, I knew it was what I wanted to do.

Working with a creative and fun team and helping push them to achieve their full potential

Do you have a signature style?

I like more textured styles and working with longer hair.

Have you won any awards?

Not yet! However, I am nominated in the SHABA Awards for Best Male Barber 2018.

Do you perform in barber shows?

I’ve done a few in the past, however I’ve always felt that I’ve enjoyed talking more than showing! So, I’d like to take our Art Team around the country/UK/The World and be that guy that makes a joke and no one laughs…

All types really, I’m happy for anyone to sit in my chair.

What do you think is the future for Modern Barbering?

I feel that the future of barbering brings more knowledge and education.

Is there anyone in the industry you really admire?

The guys over in Menspire do a great job. I also admire people like John Carmona aka Titan_barber on the Instagram. He’s creative skills with colour and cuts is amazing at the moment.

How long have you been a barber?

8 years but in the hair industry for 18 years.

What made you want to get into the industry?

I really needed a job…and it turned out to be my passion.

Do you have a signature style?

My skills are very versatile, however my favourite cuts are precision cuts.

Have you won any awards?

I’ve won Best Female Barber in the Shaba for the past 2 years

Do you perform in barber shows?

I have been lucky to do lots of shows, my boss Alan Finlay encouraged me. I am now a member of the RAT PACK and The MHFEDS.

What do you think is the future for Modern Barbering:

The future is looking strong for barbering. We’re seeing modern barbers that are very well structured and balanced in their cutting and styling.

I admire what Menspire and Josh Lamonaca are doing in the industry right now.

No! Years of experience mean I turn my hand to whatever the client is after.

As owner of Rebel Rebel, we have won many awards over the years including ‘Best Barbers 13’ 14’ 16’, ‘Best Afro Hair Stylist 14’ and I’ve been made an member of the MHFed.

Be honest with your barber about what you are looking for. Show them pictures to help describe what you want!

What are your goals?

To keep inspiring young barbers, to help mentor them throughout their careers, and encourage them to do what they do with the most excellence.

What made you want to get into the industry?

I started off wanting to draw as a career within the comic book industry. I had missed my exams and had to wait a full year. Within that year I fell into hairdressing and the rest is history.
