A CENTURIES old family home will be the subject of a paranormal investigation at the end of this summer – and intrigued ghost hunters can join in too.

The Grade-II listed, Tudor-Gothic Pen Y Lan Hall, Ruabon, has been occupied by members of the same family who have owned it for nearly 200 years.

It boasts a host of creepy and ghostly tales, with paranormal investigators now set to attempt to make contact with the Spirit world.

Paranormal Friends, a group of investigators based in Shropshire, will hold a public investigation of the building on September 8.

Previous investigations have reported activity such as children's voices, unexplained music and footsteps being heard. Shadow figures have also been reported. It is claimed that the cellars once held prisoners and their screams can allegedly be heard.

Adam Millward, the medium of the group, said: “We are extremely honoured and excited to be able to investigate Pen Y Lan Hall and can’t wait to see what we uncover.

“One investigator has previously reportedly described the property as being one of the most haunted places in Britain so it should have lots in store for us.

“The aim is to use a combination of spiritual and scientific methods of investigation and guests joining us on this investigation will be able to access many areas, including the very large and eerie cellar, magnificent hallway, dining room, drawing room, some bedrooms, the former servants’ quarters in the attic and several outbuildings such as hayloft, stables and barns.”

The house is said to date from around 1690 having been built by one of the founders of Lloyds bank, Samson Lloyd but was remodelled in 1830. Samson Lloyd was a Quaker who fled Wales due to persecution in 1689. This splendid home retains many of its original features and outbuildings.

It was purchased in 1854 by Thomas Hardcastle of the cotton manufacturing firm of Ormrod and Hardcastle. It was enlarged and altered later in the century, although most of these additions were demolished during the 1950s. The Ormrod family have owned Pen-y-Lan Hall since the nineteenth century, and to this day sits in a 1,000-acre estate.

Paranormal Friends use methods including Victorian style Séances, table tipping experiments and glass divination on their investigations.

The investigation takes place on Saturday, September 8 between 9pm and 2am. Tickets cost £30 and can be booked by visiting http://www.paranormalfriends.co.uk/book/

Please feel free to bring your own investigation equipment and certainly a torch. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided on the night.
