A VILLAGE event was a big success, organisers have said.

Higher Kinnerton Community Council's village day took place on Saturday and saw residents turn out to enjoy a range of fun and games.

The event, which also raised money for Cancer Research UK, took place at the Main Road Recreation Ground in the village.

Liz Corner, clerk to Higher Kinnerton Community Council, told the Leader: "It was a really good day and it was very well attended.

"I estimate there were about 200 people at peak time and we have raised more than £800 for Cancer Research UK, which has touched the hearts of a lot of members at the community council.

"We have has a lot of positive feedback on Facebook and people getting in touch with the community council. We had several fair ground rides, a bouncy castle, train rides, waltzers, donkey rides, barbecue, a raffle and more.

"The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time. We had lots of families turn out with a picnic."

She added raffle prizes were donated by businesses including Tesco and Morrisons.
