THE Leader took to Broughton, home of aircraft manufacturer, to gauge shoppers thoughts on Airbus' warning that they would move their UK sites abroad if EU negotiators sign a "no-deal" Brexit.

Ciah Smith, of Rhos, said: "To be honest I don't think they'll pull out. But I think they'll be no worse off - it would cost them more to move to China and setting up there. It's an idle threat this is. It would have a massive effect on the country and community. Not many suppliers can make it like they do over here."

Ann Simmons, of Rossett, said the company would not pull out of the UK due to the effect on families and employees who would lose their jobs.

She said: "Lots of people work there and they would have no work. Lots of traders and suppliers would miss out, as Airbus has a lot of connections with the local area."

Mum Frances Chettoe, of Rossett, said: "I'm more concerned about the families who would miss out from the income."

Steve Clegg, of Sandycroft, said the removal of the UK Airbus site would be detrimental to his livelihood as he works for Gem, an engineering and maintenance service, which makes the "steps and stages" for Airbus products and has a contract to repair and supply to the aircraft manufacturer.

He said: "It would effect me massively as I do work for Airbus. If it does happen, I'll be out of a job. There's too much invested in the Broughton site to put down the drain."

Terrence and Mave Jones, of Buckley, said: "We don't agree with them moving and that the announcement is wrong and is scaring everybody.

"It would have an impact on families and the area would go down, and small businesses would be affected. Why pull it out when people are trained here? Of course it would cost more to move to China."
