Wales crucial Women's 2019 World Cup qualifier against England on August 31 will be held at Newport or Wrexham.

Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths has called for the crunch fixture to be played at The Racecourse, and the Welsh FA are now understood to be considering the 10,500 seater venue or Newport's home ground Rodney Parade, which only has around 5,000 seats.

FIFA rules dictate any competitive international must be played at a venue with at least 1,500 seats.

If Wales - who currently lead Pool One - win the match, they will qualify automatically for next year's finals in France, although the runners-up could also qualify but are more likely to face a play-off tie.

Phil Neville's England have one extra game to play when they travel to Kasakhstan four days after facing Wales.

Wales manager Jayne Ludlow said: "There are still discussions going on at the moment just to make sure we get the best venue for us and nobody else.

"We are really looking forward to the next game being a cup final match for us and having a really big, loud fan base coming to supports us hopefully."
