A COMMUNITY venue has turned into an eyesore, according to a playgroup.

Oaktree Playgroup uses Bistre Youth and Community Centre in Buckley for its sessions and has done for several years.

But playgroup supervisor Sharon Catherall told the Leader the site has become completely 'unsightly' due to overgrown vegetation and is beginning to 'affect the community'.

She said: "It is the area in front of and to the side of the building. At this time of year we usually do story time outside but we haven't been able to do that or play out because of the grass and the nettles coming through the railings.

"It is an eyesore, you wouldn't think we run a playgroup there.

"We have been to Flintshire Council and we have been passed from pillar to post - nothing has been done.

"One of the parents even brought in their own mower to cut part of the grass. We feel embarrassed by it.

"The council has always maintained it before. I think it is starting to affect the community now and it is so unsightly."

The group has about 25 children aged between two and three-and-a-half.

A spokesman for Flintshire Council said: "Arrangements are being made for the area to be cut."
