PLANS by a retailer to bring hundreds of jobs to Flintshire have been welcomed by a senior councillor.

Iceland has confirmed that the 'reactivation' of its Deeside depot is on schedule and will create more than 200 new jobs.

In a statement released this week a spokesman for the firm said: "During the current year we will complete the reactivation of our Deeside depot as a full multi-temperature regional distribution centre, creating a total of 240 jobs."

Bernie Attridge, deputy leader of Flintshire Council and ward councillor for Connah's Quay Central, told the Leader: "It is fantastic news for this area and for surrounding areas.

"To see 240 more jobs come to the area gives a real vote of confidence and as far as the growth deal for North Wales is concerned, it will bring an economic boost that is not only for Deeside but for North Wales as well."

Iceland Group managing director Tarsem Dhaliwal said: "This year we have continued to take a long term view and to invest for the future - expanding our store footprint, enhancing the appeal of our existing stores through a major programme of refurbishments, growing our online business, continuing to roll out new and exciting food lines that are unique to Iceland, and developing our supply chain to support the growth of our retail estate."
