A NIGHT of music is being held to ensure the legacy of a Caia Park 'legend' continues.

The event will be held at the Centenary Club in Wrexham on August 3 in memory of FC Queens Park manager Martin Ford, who died suddenly aged 39, in May, leaving behind wife Kelly and young daughter Summer.

Proceeds will be used to help keep FC Queens Park running for next season, and continuing to keep giving youngsters from Caia Park a path to representing the estate in senior football.

The club has also added two 'eternal flames' to their badge in memory of Mr Ford, who owned and ran the club from its beginning in 2013, and his great friend Darren 'Coco' Roberts who died aged 31 following a road traffic collision later that same year the club was formed.

Mr Ford's close friend, Andy Simon, has taken on the running of the club with the support of Mr Ford's widow Kelly, and some of his favourite past players, such as Barry Torrance and Mikey Latham, have been queuing up to return to The Dunks for next season.

Mr Simon said: "After the heart-breaking loss of our owner/manager Martin Ford, we as a club are committed to do everything we can to ensure that the legacy Martin left carries on for many years to come. We now have a very determined committee in place that wants to provide football not only for the players but also for the wider community."

The club runs teams for players from seven-years-old up to the seniors, now looked after by new manager Dave Evans and assistant Gary Tomlinson with player-manager Aston Jones taking on the reserves.

Mr Simon added: "To remain competitive, we also need funding and one of the ways the club thought of to raise money was to hold a fundraising gig.

"We can't thank everyone involved enough, starting with Wrexham AFC who have kindly given us the Centenary Club free of charge and printed our tickets - they have been supportive in every way.

"We approached a few bands that Martin played with to see if they could help and their response was immense.

"Colin 'The Hat' Ridgeway kindly offered to get involved in sorting our sound for the evening and he is a real community person who always helps out.

"We have The Scene who are fantastic, consisting of Craig Spencer, Gareth Holmes and Anthony Turner, all good friends with Martin and delighted to be able to help with something that was so close to Martin's heart.

"The amazing Luke Gallagher offered his services with no hesitation, he was close to Martin and the two always held each other in high regard. To take time out of his busy schedule is fantastic.

"We also have the very talented Mark Jones and Brian Pickup helping out with a set. The brilliant Terry Allen will also perform, and we thank them all.

"With the help of all these people and businesses we will succeed in remaining a viable community club."

The fundraising night takes place on August 3. Entry is £5 and doors open at 7.30pm
