A WREXHAM mechanic has been sentenced to 44 weeks in prison after admitting to several offences, including a drug driving charge.

David Adam Humphreys, 35, of Bryn Hafod was subject to a suspended sentence order for criminal damage and assault when he was stopped by Police on May 25.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said that father of four Humphreys was arrested by Police after he admitted to not being insured or having a driving license and that officers could also smell cannabis in the cabin.

After a urine sample was given, Humphreys was actually found to have a proportion of cocaine in his blood at a rate 65 ug/l with the legal limit set at 10 ug/l.

Humphreys has a history of convictions for different offences, including previous instances of driving while disqualified and Alun Williams, defending, said that he had a fairly heavy dependency on cocaine but had shown genuine remorse for what he had done.

In handing out the sentence, District Judge Gwyn Jones said that Humphreys had committed a woeful and flagrant breach of the order, which he had himself imposed last year and added: "I gave you a chance and look what you have done."

Humphreys will serve at least 22 weeks in prison and has also had his driving ban extended to a total of 36 months.
