MICKEY THOMAS has warned new Wrexham boss Sam Ricketts that he will have to live with the great expectations of getting the club out of the National League.

Former Welsh international Ricketts will lead the Reds after he replaced Dean Keates in The Racecourse hotseat.

Wrexham legend Thomas said: “The expectations are high from day one. We talk about it every year that the fans expect to get out of this division and back into the Football League.

“The finish to last season was desperate. We couldn’t win a game when we had to and we couldn’t score either.

“It’s a tough job for anyone, managing Wrexham but sometimes you have to be brutally honest and say we’re a non-league team now and maybe we don’t have that divine right to go up.

“You want it to happen - especially for the fans. They are brilliant and will come back and support their team from the off next season.”
