National Certificate: Computing with Digital Media (Web and Mobile Applications)

Mobile apps are now part of everyday life for all of us – and they’re still on the rise. Fife College offers two brand new Web and Mobile Applications courses (at SCQF Levels 5 and 6) which are the perfect starting point for those seeking a career in the mobile apps industry.

HNC: Computing (Part-Time)

HNC: Computing covers a broad range of areas, introducing you to a variety of computing-related subjects and is designed to provide you with useful foundations for a successful career in computing and technology.

The course introduces you to computing systems fundamentals and aspects of software development, hardware, networking, security, technical support, and troubleshooting computing problems.

Studying part-time allows you to gain a qualification that fits around your work and family life and still get skills and knowledge that will allow you to pursue your dream career in computing. And did you know that an HNC is the same level as first year at uni so you will also be gaining an extremely marketable qualification for your CV!

HNC: Cyber Security

Cyber Security is an ever growing and constantly evolving field and, because of this, there is currently a worldwide skills gap.

This means that there are opportunities for those who do possess the skills needed. Fife College’s new HNC in Cyber

Security allows you to think like a hacker, and gain a deep understanding of security issues and concerns to allow you to defend and protect networks.

The course introduces you to characteristics of cybercrime, security principles, technologies, and procedures to defend networks. You will learn to understand how to develop security policies that comply with cyber security laws.

Reflecting rapidly-growing business needs, you will learn procedures to implement data confidentiality, integrity, availability, and security controls on networks, servers, and applications, building both the technical and professional skills needed to pursue a career in cyber security.

HND: Computing: Networking

This course offers an emphasis on the development of networking and technical skills, as well as on developing team working, problem solving, and communication skills.

In addition to SQA certification, you will have the opportunity to gain industry-recognised vendor certifications through Microsoft, CISCO, and VMWARE.

In the state-of-the-art computing labs at Fife College, you will have the opportunity to build and configure local area networks and learn how to implement secure servers. You will learn to install and configure network operating systems and how to configure Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP. You will also install and configure virtual environments using VMWARE. In year 2, there is a strong emphasis on network security.

You’ll also gain an HNC in Computing after you successfully complete your first year!
