STUDENTS and staff have been praised after a university moved up several places in a national ranking system.

Wrexham Glyndŵr University has risen 24 places in the Guardian University Guide 2019 and entered the Guardian’s Top 100 Universities in the UK.

At the university, mechanical engineering is number one in the UK (up from 27th place in 2018) for course satisfaction and education is number two in the UK (up from fourth place in 2018) for teaching satisfaction.

Five subject areas are number one in Wales for teaching satisfaction, including health professions, accounting and finance and computer science and information systems.

Seven of the subject areas are top three across Wales overall for Wrexham Glyndŵr.

Wrexham Glyndŵr University vice-chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar, said: “We’re really pleased to have risen 24 places in the Guardian university league tables which reflects the work we’ve been doing over the last couple of years to transform the university and it’s great to see these results starting to come to fruition.

“We are still a young university, celebrating 10 years of gaining university status this year, and this progress is testament to the hard work and dedication from both staff and students at Wrexham Glyndŵr.

“We are continuing to improve the quality of our teaching and research and are seeing more and more fantastic achievements from our graduates. This is just the beginning for us however and we hope to make our way even further up the league tables in the years ahead.”
