ALED BELLIS was the Buckley Town hero after they were crowned Welsh National League Premier Division champions.

Deep into stoppage time, Bellis stepped up to convert a penalty which secured a 1-1 draw with rivals Brickfield Rangers and made sure the league title was heading to Flintshire.

Nathan Jones broke the deadlock with a fine strike for Brickfield, but Buckley failed to throw in the towel even when their superior possession failed to bring about an instant equaliser.

And after referee Scott Campbell penalised Lee McBurney for handball in the box, Bellis stepped up to send the majority of the 604-strong crowd into raptures.

"It's massive for the whole club and the town," Buckley boss Dan Moore explained. "At the start of the season no one gave us a chance, we weren't being mentioned as title contenders.

"We made some good additions to the squad in January, we've added quality. If we hadn't got back up to the Cymru Alliance at the first opportunity, it would become increasingly difficult to attract players to the club, so it's huge for us.

"We left it late, scoring late on. We told the lads at half-time to just keep playing as I was confident we'd score if we just kept at it. Aled scores the penalty and we saw it out late on. We've had several comebacks this season and it was the point we ultimately needed."

Elsewhere, Hawarden Rangers recorded a convincing 4-1 success against Corwen with strikes from Louis Cunnliffe, Craig Srewart, Ben Urquhart and Dominic Auty.

Despite Chirk twice taking the lead at Rhostyllen, the hosts turned this game on its' head to win 4-2.

Kevin Roberts and Ryan Austin squared things for Rhostyllen but a man of the match performance from Matty Williams saw him bag a brace.

Mynydd Isa clinched a 4-2 Division One success at Maesgwyn, who netted through Darren Jones (2), Cody Sylvester and Ady Davies, while in the Reserves and Colts Division, Holywell Town thumped Coedpoeth 6-2, Dave Walkiewicz (2), Jack Pennington (2), Jay Wilkes and Ryan Edge on target.

Rhos Aelwyd secured a convincing 5-2 over Mynydd Isa Spartans, Jamie Rogers with a treble and Jake Simms (2) making up their nap hand with Joe Mitchell responding with a brace.

Flint Town United had to call off their trip to Queen's Park due to a shortage of players.
