A WREXHAM couple say their own big day will not be overshadowed by tomorrow’s Royal wedding.

With millions set to watch on TV around the globe, the eyes of the world will be on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they say “I do”.

But Aaron Aldous, 26 and Bethan Edwards, 27, of Broughton Heights, Pentre Broughton, are due to tie the knot at All Saints Church in Gresford at noon - exactly the same time as the Royals.

The Queen's grandson is set to marry American TV star Ms Markle at St George's Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle, but the happy couple from Wrexham, who set their date two years ago, well in advance of the royal announcement, said they could not believe it when they heard about the clash.

Aaron joked: “We started booking everything roughly two years ago - well before they announced their wedding last winter so they copied us.”

Bethan added: “When they announced their wedding would be in May I had an inkling about it, and said I bet it will be on the 19th.

“I didn’t hear about it when they confirmed the date so I thought my friends were joking.

“Everyone has RSVP’d although I did warn them that if they didn’t come I’d know they were either sat at home watching the Royal wedding – or the FA Cup final.”

The couple met five years ago, introduced by mutual friends on a night out.

Bethan says preparations have been running smoothly ever since she and Aaron became engaged in August 2016 – but a new family member has since entered the planning for the big day – their nine-month-old daughter Poppy.

She added: “Poppy is going to be a flower girl and it’s special for us that she will be able to take part on the day.

“We aren’t having a honeymoon as we didn’t want to leave her at home, so we will be going on a family holiday with her in September.”

After the ceremony Aaron and Bethan will celebrate with family and friends at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel near Chester.

Bethan added: “We both can’t wait now. We’re really excited.”
