RESIDENTS spoke of their shock after an early morning blaze destroyed a garage and damaged a car.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a blaze at a home in Foel Gron, Bagillt, just after 4am yesterday.

Neighbours described how the garage of the property was engulfed in flames, which damaged the eaves of the home and a car parked nearby.

Foel Gron resident Linda Lawlor, said: "The dog woke us up at 4am, there was a big bang, we thought we were being broken into.

"My husband looked out through the back and he saw all the flames. It was horrendous.

"We were afraid of the petrol tank going up in the car but the fire service was here very fast.

"I just hope they are alright."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed nobody was hurt in the incident, which saw two fire crews - one each from Holywell and Flint - attend the scene.

Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, four hose reel jets and two thermal imaging cameras.

Rosalin Bullimore, of Foel Gron, said: "I was woken at about 4.30am with the vibrations of vehicles and I saw the fire engines.

"When you think of the size of the garage the whole thing was engulfed in flames.

"Thankfully nobody was hurt. We are sorry for them, I think it is something we all fear."

Roy Bullimore said: "Initially it was quite intense, I think another five minutes and the house could have caught fire as well.

"They have been doing it up so much and they said they were hoping to get it all finished this year."

A spokesman for the fire and rescue service told the Leader the cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

The blaze caused 100 per cent fire damage to the garage and 60 per cent damage to a vehicle, the spokesman added.

Some damage was also done to the fascia board of the house.
