COASTGUARD and lifeboat volunteers were on standby to help police amid fears that someone was intending to harm themselves on Deeside.

A volunteer rescue team from HM Flint Coastguard was called out to assist North Wales Police near the River Dee in Flint at about 4.30pm on Thursday.

The Flint-based RNLI lifeboat was also on stand by at Connah’s Quay dock to deal with what a spokesman said was believed to be a threat of self-harm, but the volunteers were not needed.

A spokesman for Flint Coastguard said: “Mobile phones activated by UK Coastguard for an attendance request to assist North Wales Police with an incident near to the River Dee in the vicinity of Flint Town United football stadium.

“Thorough search of the area conducted by ourselves with nothing untoward found.

“Police confirmed that situation had come to a safe conclusion and our assistance was no longer required and as a result the team stood down.”
