DEESIDE is one of five areas in Wales still in the running to be one of four Heathrow logistic hubs which will be located across the UK.

Welsh Assembly Economy Secretary Ken Skates will address representatives from Heathrow Airport today as part of the bid to promote Welsh sites as the right location for a Heathrow Logistic Hub.

These sites are located in Deeside, Cardiff, Newport, Ebbw Vale and Bridgend.

A team from Heathrow airport’s expansion team will be in North Wales today to visit Tata Shotton which is one of the six shortlisted sites.

Heathrow has committed to create the four logistic hubs to widen the supply chain and ensure the extensive build programme associated with the airport expansion is resilient, sustainable and cost effective.

Once selected, the four logistic hubs will be the location for the offsite construction of the infrastructure for Heathrow’s third runway with each of the hubs expected to deliver huge numbers of jobs and a major economic boost within its area.

In addressing Heathrow representatives, Mr Skates will be joined by the Secretary of State for Wales, Alun Cairns, Councillor Aaron Shotton, Flintshire Council Leader, regional stakeholders and representatives of potential supply chain companies.
