The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have welcomed their third child, now, in true British tradition, people are speculating on what the latest addition to the Royal family will be named.

Gwyn Griffiths and Joe Robinson took to the region’s streets to ask...

Leader readers have had their say on what the latest addition to the Royal family should be called.

On Monday, St George's Day, at 11.01am the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a bouncing baby boy weighing in at 8lb 7oz, the couple's third child.

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, London.

Crowds were soon gathering outside to catch a first glimpse of the new Prince.

We hit the streets of Wrexham and Queensferry to see what people thought the fifth in line to the throne should be called with names ranging from Rueben to Brandon.

Queensferry barber Serkim Yildirim, who has a young son, said: “It’s great news and I wish them all the best for the future. I think a good name for their baby would be Rueben.”

Lynne Foulkes, from Garden City, said most of the names she would choose have already gone. “It can’t be Charles because that’s his grandfather’s name, though they could have that as a middle name I suppose. I like the name Brandon, but I can’t see them calling him that.''

Hairdresser Rose Johnson said she has a wide variety of names in her family because she was born in Canada, but grew up in Germany.

She said: ''It’s great news because I love kids. I think they will pick an old name like Richard or Andrew, but personally I like the name Karl.''

Megan Hughes, of Queensferry, flew the flag for Wales in one of her choices.

She said: “I’m pleased they’ve had a boy and I think they should chose a posh name like Nathaniel. That’s my godson’s name and I really like it. It would also be good if they chose a Welsh name and I really like the sound of Prince Llewellyn.”

Her boyfriend, Mike Thomas, is from New Zealand and said he does not pay much attention to the royal family.

He said: “We went to Buckingham Palace and it was underwhelming, just another building really and I wasn’t that impressed. They have the British royal family on the TV back home but they’re just another family who are famous for no real reason, like the Kardashians. I prefer the Royle Family, the television series. Theo would be a good name for the baby but it’s probably too American for them.”

Stuart Roberts, 70, of Mold but shopping in Wrexham, says he is a proud royalist and believes the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may deviate from choosing a more “traditional” name.

“Good luck to them all I say. I would say Luke and John would be good choices, but perhaps it should be a Welsh name because his grandfather is the Prince of Wales. If so you could have David or Dewi.

''I am a royalist and the thing is I believe you have got to have a monarch. The Queen has done miracles and when I was up in Scotland recently I was keen to go and see the Queen Mother’s old home in Caithness.”

Carl Joseph, 53, of Wrexham, is more of a traditionalist. “I would say it is likely to be Harry, Philip or Henry. You won’t be far wrong if you suggest those names, they are typical royal names.”

Michelle Morris, from Dyserth, was thrilled to hear of the birth and said: “This is wonderful news and it’s a nice feel good factor for the country.

''It’s good to have some positive news to celebrate and it’s my birthday soon so we’ll share the same birth sign. I hope they give him a traditional name, nothing too modern, like Philip or name him after a close member of the family. Lovely news.”
