The young Royals were not the only couple celebrating the joy of a newborn.

Staff on Wrexham Maelor Hospital's maternity ward were also busy helping to bring new life into the world.

Alex Davies and Amy Platt, 29, of Plas Madoc, Acrefair, were thrilled to welcome the latest addition to their family, a baby brother for five year-old Caden, who arrived shortly before 2.30pm, weighing 7lbs 8.

The proud couple have yet to settle on a name, as they are waiting to see Wills and Kate's choice first.

Mr Davies said: "To be honest we didn't even know about the royal baby until ours was here.

"It all happened very quickly, the staff said it was one of the quickest births they had ever seen.

"We haven't picked a name yet. We are waiting to see what Will and Kate name theirs.

"Both mother and child are doing very well and we are all very excited."

Jamie and Vicki Reed, of Brook Road, Ellesmere, also welcomed daughter Piper at the hospital, a sister for Caitlin, 15 and Dillon (CORRECT) 11, weighing 6lbs 11.

Mr Reed, 41, said: "We are delighted and really made up.

"We did not know it was going to happen today, as Piper is two weeks early. We have had the name planned for a few weeks."

He added: "We only heard on the radio in the labour ward this afternoon about the Royals.

"Not many people can say they were born on the same day as a Royal, and we'll never have an excuse for forgetting her birthday."
