A YOUNG man stole a trailer and also bought a stolen quadbike.

Leonard Hughes, 21, of Whitford, near Holywell, appeared before Flintshire magistrates.

He admitted that in April he stole a trailer valued at £250 from Brynford and between March 27 and April 4 he handled a stolen Kawasaki Quad Bike valued at £950.

Hughes was fined £85 with £85 costs. He was also placed on a community order and told to carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community.

David Matthews, defending, told the Mold court his client been suffering depression after the death of his grandfather and a split up with his partner.

He had been behaving in an erratic and unusual way and was receiving therapy.

Mr Matthews said his client should never have taken the word of the people who sold the bike to him.

He should have been suspicious because he had not paid much for it.

Hughes admitted that he had taken the trailer when it was quite clearly not abandoned.

Magistrates said Hughes had claimed he was not very good with paperwork but it was vital when purchasing vehicles to have the correct documents in place.
