CHILDREN at St Peter's School in Rosset will have green fingers following the installation of a new irrigation system.

The new pipes will compliment the existing polytunnel, allowing members of the schools gardening club to have a much better chance of planting and harvesting crops.

Mrs Pritchard, headmistress at St. Peter's, said: "The Garden Club widens the scope of what the children can do. Last year we had a grant to install the polytunnel, but the the nearest water source was 70 metres away, so the children were having to carry watering cans that distance.

"And then at the weekend all the crops would die because they weren't getting watered. But now we have the new pipes and a timer, so the crops can be watered automatically.

"We've had massive support from the groups that have helped get the system up and running. It's quite a big project but we've had a lot of support from the community too, helping to dig the trenches for the pipes and that sort of thing."

The installation of the pipes was completed with the help of several groups, including; the Balfour Trust, David Austin Roses, Rossett Community Council, Bellis Brothers, Travis Perkins and the Burton and Rossett Horticultural Society.
