A man and woman are being treated for serious injuries after emergency services were called to an assault this morning.

Police say a 73-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man are both in a serious but stable condition in hospital after attending the house in Sealand Road, Chester.

Sealand Road was closed as six police cars, three ambulances and the air ambulance attended the scene.

One witness at the scene described seeing blood splattered on the inside of one of the windows at the property.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At 8:44am police were called to an address on Sealand Road, Chester, after reports of a serious assault. Officers attended the scene to find a man and a woman with serious injuries.

"Emergency services are currently dealing with the incident.

"A woman has been taken to Aintree Hospital via air ambulance and the man has been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital by paramedics. Sealand Road has reopened to traffic.

"At this stage it is believed to be an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing."

The air ambulance took one casualty to Aintree Hospital.

Motorists were urged to avoid Sealand Road.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Police are currently dealing with an incident on Sealand Road, Chester.

“Officers are at the scene and are trying to establish the circumstances of what has happened. Sealand Road has been shut to traffic. Local diversions are currently in place."

Sealand Road is now reopened to traffic.
